Installing Open Broadcaster Software on Your Computer
To ensure a smooth interview experience for yourself and our audience, please be sure to do the following.
Download the Software
OBS is safe, free to download, and takes moments to setup.
Install the Software
Double click the file you just downloaded to begin the setup process. You're just a few clicks from being finished!
1: Usage Information: Be sure that "Optimize for streaming" is checked, then press "Next".
2: Video Settings: Leave the default settings as they are and press the "Next" button.
3: System Information: This is not necessary to set up, so simply press the "Cancel" button.
4: Add Source: If you are using an external webcam, plug it in now. In the "Sources" panel to the lower left, press the "+" button and click the "Video Capture Device" option from the dropdown that appears.
5: Name the Source: Name the camera feed whatever makes sense to you, such as "webcam". Press "OK".
6: Set Properties: A properties panel will appear. Leave the default settings as they are and simply press the "OK" button.
7: Set output: Press the "Settings" button and in the panel that appears press "Output" and set the "Recording Format" dropdown to "mp4". Press "OK".
8: Finish: You're all set! Before the interview begins we will walk you through how to begin recording.
